After trying to prepare for the exploration of ports visited on a cruise I found that there was very little information on many so I decided to documented my experience at each one giving information about such practical matters and the availability of taxis, public transportation, local excursions, money exchanges, wifi, and distance from town. By knowing what to expect before I landed at a port I could better decide what activities I could undertake to get the most out of my visit. I took abundant pictures so readers could get a feel for the ports and the areas around them.
The ocean cruise was taken on Cunard’s Queen Mary II, a very large mega ship that could not fit into the smaller ports so often had to berth further from town than smaller ships. The cruise began in New York on January 3, 2015 and ended 4 1/2 months later in New York on May 10. The two week river cruise was taken on a Viking longboat down the Rhine and Danube starting in Rotterdam on August 23, 2015 and ending in Budapest on September 6. The ship had no restrictions in regard to docking but the Danube was too shallow for passage and passengers were bused around the inaccessible portion of the river.
A post with photographs was made for each port. The posts are grouped by continent and then categorized by country. Detailed information on gardens can be found on karensgardentips.com under travel. Details on wine can be found on tastedonline.com under Travels of a Wine Blogger. I hope that readers will find the posted information helpful when they visit these ports.
